Roma's Gasperini: "We Want to Keep All Our Key Players"
June 5, 2026 · Silvia Jiménez
Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma's coach, emphasized the club's intention to retain its star players while addressing financial requirements with UEFA. He also discussed Gianluca Mancini's future and the importance of contract renewals for team leaders.
Roma must generate just over €50 million in capital gains to comply with the parameters of the settlement agreement signed with UEFA, but that does not mean that the key players of the squad are destined to leave. This was emphasized directly by Gian Piero Gasperini, who spoke in Bergamo during the 50th anniversary of the Tennis and Padel Tournament of the Sports Academy for Solidarity. The giallorossi coach reiterated the desire to build on the core of the team: "I would like to keep them all; however, there are also budgetary needs. We must be clever in finding ways to keep the best players because they are the foundation for better building." This is a clear message that, at least in intent, distances the possibility of a summer overhaul.
The approach seems focused on continuity, valuing the group that secured qualification for the Champions League. In this context, comments regarding Gianluca Mancini's future, who has recently been linked with Inter, are particularly significant: "He’s not leaving; I’ve already told him that. No matter what Inter wants, if a player wants to stay, he will stay."

Gasperini further discussed the importance of renewing contracts for the team's leaders, highlighting the necessity of preserving the historical core: "We are talking about fundamental players; this is a group that fought until the 90th minute with an extraordinary desire to achieve the goal that was rightfully reached. I saw commitment; the backbone is important. That is why renewals for Pellegrini and Dybala would be crucial."
Lastly, he touched on the incoming transfer market and the negotiations for Mason Greenwood. There was no confirmation, but also no outright closure from the coach: "We have to work well, seriously, and attentively. Rome is an important city; we have the duty and need to grow this team for the fans. Let's see what can be done. Every team wants the best players possible. The important thing is to work well. Greenwood? Many names are circulating..."
