Real Madrid has faced similar challenges post-Kroos. Despite massive investments in other areas of the team, filling the void left by Kroos has been a priority for managers like Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and now José Mourinho. Yet, the club has struggled to adequately replace him, resulting in trophyless seasons since Kroos's retirement in 2024. This situation underlines the critical need for a top-tier midfielder to maintain competitive edge.
The arrival of Rodri at Barcelona not only reinforces their midfield but also strategically weakens their rivals, Real Madrid, who were in dire need of such a player following Kroos's exit. This acquisition is expected to elevate Barcelona's performance in European competitions, where they have faltered in recent seasons.
In conclusion, the midfielder's role has evolved beyond mere tactical importance. Players like Rodri and Busquets are now celebrated for their ability to dictate the pace of the game, manage critical moments, and bring stability to youthful squads.
