Mandela Keita Focused on Parma Amid Transfer Talks
June 11, 2026 · Nieves Gómez
Mandela Keita, Parma's midfielder, discusses his first year in Italy, initial challenges, and future ambitions, including his dream of playing in the Champions League.
Mandela Keita has recently shared insights on his journey in Italian football during an appearance on Junior Vertongen's YouTube channel. The Parma midfielder reflected on his first challenging year in Italy, his connection with the city, and his long-term aspirations that have fueled transfer rumors.
Keita's arrival at Parma was marked by initial struggles. "When I first came to Italy, I was very excited to experience something new after achieving so much with Antwerp," Keita explained. "However, my debut at Parma didn't go as planned—I received two yellow cards and got sent off. It wasn't the start I had hoped for, especially after being signed for a significant fee. I had to adapt quickly."
Support from his teammates and coach Cristian Chivu turned the tide for Keita. "Things improved as everyone supported me, including my mother and the team. Chivu's arrival boosted my confidence. When someone places such trust in you, everything else falls into place," he added.

Keita has found Italian football to be a different challenge compared to the Belgian league. "There's a lot of tactical thinking involved here. You have to be more alert and clever on the field. The quality of players is higher, with talents like Rabiot, Modric, Locatelli, and Calhanoglu. Playing against Modric was a highlight; his ball control is on another level," he remarked.
Expressing his fondness for Parma, Keita said, "It's a small, welcoming city. I live near the stadium, and I love how peaceful it is." In the locker room, he has adopted the role of the team's joker, easing tensions and lifting spirits. "I try to make everyone comfortable, especially when things aren't going well. I'm not the type to shout," he noted.
Amidst ongoing transfer rumors, Keita remains focused on his current team. "The market talks are positive and a testament to my performances and the team's support. But for now, they are just rumors. I'm happy and confident here at Parma but have my eyes set on future goals," he said. Keita's ultimate dream is clear: "To play in the Champions League with one of the world's top clubs, wherever that may be."
